02 The place

On Naqsh-e Jahan Square

The Shah Mosque, or Imam Mosque, stands on the southern side of Naqsh-e Jahan Square in Isfahan. It belongs to the Safavid era and was built on the order of Shah Abbas I.

The building has an enormous dome, nearly 57 metres high, as well as tall minarets. Exemplary tiling, with a unique symmetrical design, under the dome and on most of the inner walls, mesmerises visitors.

03 In his words

Perfect symmetry

The ceiling of this place is like no other. It is one of the most exquisite works of architecture, one that you might find hard to look away from. I stood in the middle of this structure so that I could capture its perfect symmetry with prominence. Using a wide lens, I was able to capture the ceiling in its entirety.
